Hear Me Out

Hi! Some of you might know me from my own personal blog or Instagram, @jackpineandthyme. I am jumping in today as a guest writer. You will see an article by yours truly in Volume 3, coming soon!

I don’t know about you, but in the last year, I have spent a lot of time in the car, driving to and from northern Minnesota, work, meetings, etc. Calculating this time is something I highly suggest you avoid because I warn you, it will make you sick.

I am currently going back to school in my spare time, (what is that?!) which means textbook reading after textbook reading. People always tell me, “Oh Sam! Read before bed, it is such a great way to relax and helps you fall asleep easily!” Well holy smokes folks, I don’t know about you but the second my head hits that pillow it is lights out, donezo, kaput.

While I was spending my evenings sleeping rather than checking off books on my “must read” list, that list continued to grow. I wanted to do something about it. It hit me! Audio books. Shortly after, I was headed on a four-hour road trip and then onto a three-hour flight. This was the PERFECT amount of time to listen to a book, instead of listening to the constant repeat of the same seven songs on the radio.

I searched the ITunes store and an app called Audible and found my first book, The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, by Amy Schumer. After finishing that book and the feeling of finally getting to “read” for leisure again, I was hooked.

I listen when driving, when I am cleaning the house, when flying in an airplane, literally anytime I am alone and cannot have meaningful conversation with someone or am not going to bug the pants off of someone who can hear it.

Here are my three favorite listens so far; I dare ya to give it a try.

I also highly suggest checking your local library for audio books if you have a CD player in your car! This is a much more cost-effective option but also only allows you to listen in your car or in a CD player in your home. The app audio books are nice for if you travel and want to take it anywhere.**

Check out my latest blog post to see what else I am listening to when I'm listening to audio books! Hint, hint... it's a spring Spotify playlist!
